Our Purpose

Our purpose is to gather information about new housing developments and the dwellings on them that meet one criterion: sustainablity - ie, a system that enables people to live harmoniously with the environment. (And incidentally to save money by doing so.)

What We're Doing
And Ways You Can Get Involved

We hope to engage people's involvement in site design (use of natural drainage; value of trees and bushes for shade; natural water courses; placement of utility lines; width and material of streets; landscapes as productive gardens; child-friendly access and circulation etc). And in actual building practices (placement and orientation of houses; highest rated insulation; super windows for optimum energy management; on-demand water heaters; feedback electronic controls to minimize energy use; heat-trapping and -distributing sinks; display meters that show how much energy (and money) is being saved etc..

The end point is that it is entirely possible, and increasingly essential, to create energy-efficient communities that save energy, the ennvironment - and unquestionably money. Wouldn't it be great if we accumulated enough information and examples to guide the developers and builders of new Langley housing to earn our town the reputation of the most environmentally sensible town in Washington? Please help attain this worthy goal by chipping in with your ideas.
