Imagine Langley - A Working Group of the Langley Community Forum

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Community Impact Statement Working Group is to prepare an interim Community Impact Statement (CIS) to present to the City of Langley. After Langley's visioning process (see the Imagine Langley Working Group) is completed, this preliminary CIS will be edited and expanded to reflect Langley's currently stated values and vision.

A Community Impact Statement differs from an Environmental Impact Statement or Review in that it addresses a broader range of issues and sets standards that can guide developers in the design and preparation of proposals. The subjects addressed are more qualitative, cannot always be reduced to numbers, and point to issues that are important to the community. The CIS functions as a public consultation document to facilitate informed community comment, which can help guide the creation of a proposal, thereby conserving the developer's resources and the community's goodwill.

What We're Doing
And Ways You Can Get Involved

At present we are revising the rough draft of the interim CIS. After having met with Pete Friedman (Langley's city planner), the CIS has morphed into "Guidelines for Developers," which we plan to turn into an illustrated handout for prospective developers.

To get involved with this process, contact Gail Fleming at 221-1227 or e-mail her.
