LCF History

The Langley Community Forum evolved from a series of meetings held by an ad hoc group that came together after the call by city councilman Doug Allderdice (at the September 3, 2003 Council meeting) for a community process to develop a fresh vision for Langley.

This group soon decided that its role was to prepare for and support a larger community visioning process rather than attempt to create that vision on its own. Three subgroups were initially formed: Community Process (now called 'Imagine Langley'), Education, and Mapping.

With still more time it became clear that Langley needed some kind of ongoing non-governmental forum in which members of the community could quickly and easily come together to address various issues in addition to the question of a vision for Langley. At a meeting on January 5, 2004 the group chose the name "Langley Community Forum" and agreed to develop as an organization along the lines described in About LCF.
